Pride Map Title En2019 TAIPEI PRIDE MAP

Celebrate 2019 Taiwan Pride with the parade, seminars, and parties!

In May 2019, Taiwan became the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, which makes this year’s pride month all the more meaningful for the LGBT community. You can join the annual pride parade in Taipei on 10/26, with the parade route starting at the Taipei City Hall plaza and ending in front of the Presidential Office Building. If you’re planning to celebrate pride (and halloween!) in Taipei, follow our Taipei Pride Map to experience what Taipei has to offer for the LGBT community.

228 Peace Memorial Park

Why 228 Peace Memorial Park? It’s historically a place for gay couples and friends to gather at night since most of their families wouldn’t have allowed those relationships back in the day. It was also a major scene in Pai Hsien-yung’s classic novel, Crystal Boys.

Wei-ming Temple, also known as the Rabbit God Temple, is a Taoist house of worship for gays. In history, the term “rabbit” was the equivalent of “faggot” in English. But now the Rabbit God temple is a place for gays to pray for love.

The Red House

Originally a theater, the Red House used to screen second-run and adult movies. Gays usually lingered around here because of its proximity to 228 Peace Memorial Park and its cheap tickets — they could buy some time and space with their lovers behind the theater seats or in the bathrooms. Today, the building is converted into a creative/designer market. It’s an iconic building situated right in the center of Taipei’s gay district.

LOVE BOAT SHOP
